Sarkodie promises ‘biggest Rapperholic yet’ in Kumasi

Multiple award-winning rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known in Showbiz as Sarkodie, is promising an electrifying musical performance at his ‘Rapperholic’ event in Kumasi.

The artiste says the event, which will assemble some of Ghana’s greatest music artistes will be his biggest concert to date.

Speaking on Luv FM’s Drive Time show, the BET award-winner said the “Homecoming” edition of Rapperholic is being put together with unmatched effort and energy, assuring fans of an unforgettable night.

“This is going to be my biggest Rapperholic yet. What we are trying to do here, is going to be hard for anyone to beat because we are putting in the best of everything we have for this one,” he said.

The rapper, who hails from Juaso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region, described the Kumasi show as a personal milestone, calling it a return to his roots.

He also revealed that Rapperholic in Kumasi will not be a one-off event but the start of a musical tradition for the Ashanti Region.

Despite his long career of commanding stages around the world, Sarkodie admitted that he still gets nervous before mounting the stage, saying the feeling pushes him to give his best.

“I believe if you love something, you are supposed to be nervous. When I feel nervous, that’s what makes me put out my best,” he said.

He also disclosed having a “very big folder” of unreleased songs, including one with highlife legend Daddy Lumba that never came out.

Sarkodie says his passion for music goes beyond financial gain as he says his music journey has never been about chasing money, but rather a deep connection to the craft.

“I love money but I don’t do music because of money. I just love music, it’s not because I want to be commercial,” he said, adding that “music is spiritual and has the power to let you love what you don’t love”.

The rapper also shared his childhood aspiration of becoming a medical doctor despite his penchant for music.

“I love biology but I just can’t stand blood,” he noted.

Instead, he turned his creativity into art, drawing, painting, sketching and later studying graphic design at IPMC to sharpen his skills.

Touching on his friendship with dancehall star Shatta Wale, Sarkodie said they both value the same things in life but pursue them differently.

“Everything that Wale likes I like, what differs is our strategy to get those things we like. He likes money, I like money. He likes security, I like security,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be the centre-stage of musical attraction as patrons will be treated to unforgettable and vibrant performances from artistes including Shatta Wale, Gyakie, Kofi Kinaata, Skyface, JayBhad, among other surprising acts.
