Addai-Nimoh withdraws from NPP 2026 presidential primary, cites bias and ‘unhealthy monetisation’

Senior New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Francis Addai-Nimoh has announced that he will not participate in the party’s 2026 Presidential Primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 27, 2025, Addai-Nimoh said his decision followed extensive consultations, advice from his team, and careful reflection on the state of the party.

“Following broad consultations, advice from my team members and careful reflections on the current circumstances of the party, I have decided not to contest the NPP Presidential Primary,” the statement read.

He cited “inappropriate political timing,” a “top-down approach” to internal contests, and what he described as a “seeming bias of party executives towards one candidate” as key reasons for his withdrawal.

Addai-Nimoh also expressed concern over what he termed the “unreasonable and unhealthy monetisation” of the party’s internal politics, pointing to the GHC 4.6 million fee required of each aspirant as an example.

“These factors undermine the foundations of our internal democratic culture and place unethical emphasis on money rather than competence and winnability,” he stated.

Despite his withdrawal, Addai-Nimoh wished the remaining aspirants success in their campaigns.

“Nevertheless, I wish all the aspirants well in their campaigns,” he concluded.
