The Assistant Northern Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aniwaba KB Jeremiah, has condemned the recent remarks by Abetifi MP and NPP flagbearer hopeful, Dr Bryan Acheampong.
Dr Acheampong, addressing some party supporters on August 23, argued that the NPP’s 2024 defeat was largely due to what he called “tribal dynamics” surrounding Dr Bawumia’s candidature.
In a press release, Mr. Aniwaba expressed disappointment, stressing that it is “most unfortunate” for a party stalwart and presidential hopeful to make what he termed as “unguided and inappropriate comments.”
He noted that such utterances undermine the values of unity, tolerance, and maturity that the NPP upholds.

He therefore called on the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council (NC) of the party to urgently intervene and caution Mr. Acheampong.
The secretary urged the Abetifi legislator to render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and to the NPP, warning that the remarks risk eroding the confidence of grassroots supporters and weakening the party’s cohesion.
“The NPP has always drawn strength from inclusivity, embracing citizens from all backgrounds, regions, and ethnic groups. Any action or statement that seeks to divide us along such lines is counterproductive and detrimental to the fortunes of the party,” he stated.
He also encouraged all party aspirants to emulate the example of Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, commending his humility, inclusive posture, and commitment to peaceful political engagement.
He described Dr. Bawumia’s leadership style as worthy of recognition and a model for every member of the party.

He concluded by emphasising that at this critical juncture in the NPP’s political journey, leaders must prioritise the collective interest of the party and the nation above personal or sectional ambitions.
“Only through discipline, respect, and unity can the NPP sustain the trust of the Ghanaian people,” he affirmed.
