Fear and panic have gripped the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Akrofuom and residents of Adwafo in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region following an emergency landing of a helicopter bearing the name, International Aircraft Services, with registration number AS 365N3.
Speaking to Adom News correspondent, Isaac K. Normanyo, the DCE for Adansi Akrofuom, Gariba Mohammed Musatpha, said on hearing of the emergency landing of the plane, he rushed to the scene where he met a crew of four who explained that they were en route to Chirano from Accra and had to land due to the poor weather conditions.
“I was at the office when I received a call that there had been an emergency landing in the town. Upon my arrival, I spoke to the aircrew, and they told me that they were on their way to Chirano Mines. However, due to bad weather conditions, they had to make an emergency landing here. What prompted me to come was the recent incident that happened the other day, and the town is close to us, with investigations still ongoing,” he said, referring to the tragic helicopter crash.
Some residents who spoke to Adom News said they were traumatised when the Aircraft was seen looking for a place to land. Luckily for them the plane found the community park and safety landed.
They felt the recent disaster that claimed 8 lives in the same vicinity was going to rear its head again.
“We were gripped with fear this morning. I saw the aircraft turning around and I began to shout, ‘God, have mercy on us.’ Then the aircraft started coming down, and we feared it would crash like the previous one did. My mother is blind — I wanted to run and leave her behind because of the incident. But just as I was about to leave, we saw it landing safely on the park.”
This incident occurred just days after a tragic helicopter crash last Wednesday that claimed the lives of two Ministers of State and six other Ghanaians.
On 6th August 2025, another helicopter carrying four passengers was also forced to make an emergency landing at Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben, Central Region, due to adverse weather conditions.
The unexpected landing drew large crowds of local residents, who flocked to the school park eager to witness the rare event.
