The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to begin works on eight high-tension transmission towers that collapsed near Ejisu in March 2024.

The towers form a vital part of the power line connecting the Anwomaso Bulk Supply Point (BSP) to the Akyawkrom Substation.

A virtual kickoff meeting, involving ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission leadership, engineering, network projects as well as premises & estate teams from head office and BEST POWER, the Indian firm contractors working on the project, has been held.

The meeting discussed pre-contractual formalities, mobilisation funding, project timelines, safety compliance, and outage minimisation strategies.

This project is a promise to restore power, rebuild trust, and reinforce the safety of the people we serve,” Head of Public Relations, Ashanti Sub-Transmission Collins Manu, told Myjoyonline.com.

The towers collapsed after thieves stole bolts and nuts supporting the base of high-tension towers at Ejisu, belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

General Manager of Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. Peter Fletcher, reaffirmed his team’s readiness and urged all stakeholders to offer the needed support. He emphasised the need to incorporate safety measures, such as barriers around urban tower installations, to prevent future incidents involving heavy vehicles.

This initiative forms part of ECG’s broader agenda to improve system reliability and operational efficiency across the Ashanti Region.
