The 2025 National Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has spotlighted Dr Bryan Acheampong as a key figure in the party’s future leadership conversation, with grassroots delegates and party faithful openly endorsing him as a potential presidential candidate for 2028.

Held under the theme “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” the conference convened over 5,500 delegates from across the country to deliberate on internal reforms, proposed constitutional amendments, and strategies for party renewal. While discussions centred on modernising party structures and deepening grassroots engagement, much of the excitement at the event gravitated towards Dr Acheampong’s arrival.

Spontaneous chants of “BA! BA! BA!” echoed outside the stadium, reflecting what many described as an organic groundswell of support from the party base.

A Call for Visionary Leadership

Delegates and grassroots members expressed their sentiments in interviews and informal discussions throughout the event, with statements such as:

“We need a face with vision.”

“In Bryan, we have a presidential candidate that can be trusted.”

“It is Bryan and the rest.”

“In Bryan, NPP will be revived.”

“The voice of the masses is seen in Bryan.”

These remarks capture a rising mood within sections of the party yearning for generational renewal, unity, and a reinvigorated political message ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The Bryan Acheampong Factor

Dr Bryan Acheampong, the current Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has built a reputation as a strategic thinker and responsive public servant. His stewardship of the government’s food security initiatives and his background in both public policy and national security have earned him admiration within and beyond the party ranks.

His supporters believe he has the temperament, experience, and vision to bridge party ideals with national aspirations, especially at a time when the NPP is grappling with internal factionalism and declining public trust.

Though Dr Acheampong has not formally declared his intention to contest the NPP’s flagbearer position for the 2028 elections, the conference made clear that his potential candidacy is gaining momentum. Many delegates believe his entry into the race would significantly influence party dynamics in the coming months.

Repositioning for 2028 and Beyond

Beyond personal endorsements, the conference underscored a broader party consensus: the NPP must reposition itself around a transformative leader capable of uniting factions, energising the grassroots, and appealing to a broader national electorate.

In the eyes of many, Dr Acheampong fits that profile.
