A Ghanaian health-tech company, Fornix Labs, has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool aimed at easing the workload of doctors across the country.
Founded by Dr. Teata Duut, Fornix Labs is piloting an AI-powered system known as Ambient Conversation Capture, which automatically generates structured medical notes from doctor-patient consultations.
The tool is being tested in clinics and hospitals where medical personnel face high patient volumes and limited time for documentation.
The system works by listening in on consultations and transcribing them into usable medical records in real-time. It also suggests potential diagnoses, outlines treatment plans, and recommends relevant laboratory tests based on the discussion between the doctor and patient.
“We’ve seen how much time is lost to documentation. With this, you speak naturally to the patient and everything gets recorded and structured while you focus on care,” Dr. Duut said.
The technology is currently being deployed in private healthcare facilities, particularly in regions where healthcare workers are stretched thin. According to the development team, the goal is to support clinicians without interfering with their workflow.
“We’re not here to automate doctors out of the system. We’re here to help them survive the system they’re already in,” a Fornix Labs team member said during a recent field review.
Although medical scribes are not new to the industry, Fornix Labs’ AI system takes a background role, reducing interruptions while increasing efficiency.
The developers believe this kind of technology can make care delivery more proactive rather than reactive, especially in resource-limited settings.
