The Ministry of Energy has refuted reports suggesting that the country is set to experience a nationwide power supply shortage, commonly referred to as dumsor, on Sunday, July 13.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, 11th July, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, clarified that the Minister’s comments had been misquoted.
He explained that upcoming maintenance works by one of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs), ENI, would impact gas supply for power generation, but assured that the necessary measures have been instituted to mitigate the effects.
“What he (the Energy Minister) said was that ENI is expected to increase gas supply, and they are going to shut down their work. Once that is done, it is going to have an impact on the supply of gas for power generation, and that measures have been put in place to ensure that we do not have any impact,” he said.
Rockson added that, in the case of power disruption, “That will be minimal.” “If you experience that, know that it is for a good purpose, so there is no point at a time when the minister mentions that there will be a nationwide dumsor.”
He explained that, in such an event, it will only last for six hours. “The minister put it out that the maximum time we will be expecting is six hours.”
