The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) over the weekend kicked off its 2025 Insurance Awareness Month Celebration with a vibrant sporting event dubbed “Insurtainment” at the University of Ghana, Legon.
Bringing together over 45 life and non-life insurance companies, reinsurers, micro-insurance providers, brokers, and agents, the event served as a strategic fusion of entertainment and education aimed at deepening public understanding of insurance and promoting a culture of risk protection.

Raising Awareness, the Fun Way
Speaking at the event, industry leaders used the platform to underscore the importance of insurance as a tool for financial protection and stability. They noted that the sector is actively designing more inclusive and accessible policies tailored to meet the needs of both the formal and informal sectors, particularly the latter, which comprises about 80% of Ghana’s working population.

“Through initiatives like Insurtainment, we aim to make insurance more relatable and less intimidating to the average Ghanaian,” said one of the industry representatives. “We are here not only to compete in games but to engage the public and stress the value of being insured.”

The event encouraged attendees to view insurance as a lifestyle necessity, not a luxury, and to pay premiums that correspond with their levels of exposure to risk.
Games That Unite the Industry
The Insurance Industry Fun Games provided an opportunity for industry professionals to bond beyond boardrooms. It also revealed a different side of the often “sedentary” CEOs and executives, many of whom took part in various disciplines, including a special 100-metre walk for CEOs, won by Glico Group.

This year’s games featured exciting competitions across football, volleyball, table tennis, athletics, tug-of-war, and other indoor sports. The atmosphere was electric, with camaraderie and healthy competition at the heart of the event.
