Political Science lecturer and CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has decried the rising tide of character assassination in Ghana’s public discourse, warning that the trend discourages competent citizens from offering themselves for national service.

In a statement Tuesday, Prof. Gyampo, known for his outspoken views on governance and civic responsibility, said he remains unshaken by recent defamatory attacks on his character but expressed deep concern for the country’s future if such toxic narratives continue unchecked.

“By the grace of God, I was created with a resilient soul that naturally cannot be broken down by anything, gye Nyame,” he wrote.

“But I am concerned about the many very decent and competent Ghanaians who can help develop the country, who have had to stay away from the opportunity to serve, simply because of the fabricated lies, insults, and ‘media jandam’ that may be orchestrated against them.”

Prof. Gyampo cautioned that when good people retreat from public service due to fear of media attacks, the nation ultimately suffers.

He acknowledged that public officials must be held accountable but called for national consensus against the deliberate fabrication and circulation of lies, especially on social media.

He also noted that while many Ghanaians are discerning enough to identify falsehoods, the culture of misinformation must be addressed head-on.

“We must criticise and call out people who do what is wrong, but we must build consensus against the practice of deliberately fabricating lies… just to tarnish image and cause disaffection,” he stated. “This practice itself must be a subject of candid national conversation.”

Addressing recent defamatory remarks made about him by an individual, Prof. Gyampo revealed that legal action was being initiated. However, he said he had chosen forgiveness over vengeance, citing a need to remain focused on his mission to serve the country.

“I once again choose forgiveness over vengeance, and I don’t even need an apology. In our journey towards our divine mission on earth, we cannot afford to fall for the bait of distractions,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to principled service and assured Ghanaians of his dedication to the country’s democratic development.

“Given what I have done in shaping the conduct of politics and governance in Ghana, I can only do what is right as I have the opportunity to serve. I have the honour to serve, and I won’t disappoint. We move.”
