The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has undertaken a working visit to the Northern Region as part of his ongoing nationwide familiarisation tour, following his recent appointment as head of the Ghana Army.
The tour is aimed at assessing operational readiness, administrative capacity, and logistical needs, while also engaging directly with troops stationed across the country to boost morale.
Addressing personnel at the Northern Command Headquarters in Tamale, Major General Gbetanu outlined the purpose of the visits.
“Since assuming office as Army Chief, I have embarked on a familiarisation and operational visit to all army units,” he said.
“This is my 10th visit, and it is intended to help me assess their operational, administrative, and logistical situations. It also provides an opportunity to connect with troops deployed at the frontlines and motivate them to give their best in protecting our motherland, Ghana.”
During his visit, the Army Chief inspected key military installations and ongoing training programmes. He visited the 6th Infantry Battalion and the Army Special Operations Training School (ASOTS) in Daboya, where he engaged with troops and senior officers.
As part of efforts to deepen civil-military relations, Major General Gbetanu also paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari II, to foster collaboration with traditional leadership and strengthen community ties.
In a media engagement, he reaffirmed the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to national security and readiness to confront all forms of threats.
“The Ghana Armed Forces is fully prepared to contain any threat, whether external or internal. Troops are deployed across the country in strategic positions to respond to any threat that may confront us as a nation,” he assured.
The tour continues in other regions as the Army Chief seeks to consolidate operational strength and ensure troops are well-equipped, motivated, and mission-ready.
