The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has embarked on a high-level working visit to the Ketu South Municipality as part of efforts to strengthen local governance, enhance development planning, and advance critical infrastructure projects across the region.

The visit formed part of his broader stakeholder engagement strategy aimed at fostering deeper collaboration between regional authorities and traditional leaders, municipal assemblies, private sector players, and community influencers.

The Minister also used the occasion to inspect a designated parcel of land earmarked for the construction of a modern market in Aflao, a flagship development initiative expected to boost cross-border trade and create jobs.

During his tour, Mr Gunu engaged with the Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South and staff of the Assembly to review ongoing and planned developmental projects. The Minister commended the Assembly for its dedication and urged a continued focus on community-centred governance.

The Minister also visited the management of Diamond Cement Ghana Limited, one of the largest industrial entities in the enclave, where discussions were held around public-private partnerships and corporate social responsibility initiatives for community development.

“This visit is not just ceremonial. It is part of a deliberate engagement process to understand the needs of our communities, inspect key infrastructure like the land for the modern Aflao market, and build a shared vision with both public and traditional institutions.”

In a media interaction, Mr Gunu outlined the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the living conditions of residents through major infrastructure projects, particularly in flood-prone and economically vulnerable areas.

“We are resolute in our efforts to secure funding and implement the sea defence project to protect our coastal communities. The modern market for Aflao is a priority under our regional economic transformation plan, and we are equally focused on rehabilitating the deteriorating road networks across the Volta Region to ease transportation and support commerce.”

Residents and traditional leaders have welcomed the Minister’s engagement, describing it as timely and impactful, especially in light of growing concerns over tidal waves, market congestion, and youth unemployment.

The modern market project, once completed, is expected to serve not only the people of Aflao and the Ketu South Municipality but also thousands of traders and commuters from neighbouring Togo and beyond.

The Volta Regional Minister’s tour is expected to continue in other parts of the region, where similar stakeholder engagements and project inspections are planned in a bid to ensure inclusive and sustainable development for all.
