Maria Adebusola Olanrewaju, the widow of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, has revealed that she is yet to receive the $3,000 donated by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
“The family members of my husband are fighting over the $3,000 donated by the entourage from Ghana. The money is yet to be given to me,” she told Sporty FM in Accra.
The amount was donated to the family when a delegation from the GBA returned the remains of the late boxer to his ancestral home in Nigeria.
Adebusola Olanrewaju, who previously complained about neglect following the boxer’s passing, also disclosed that her late husband’s family are fighting over the money.
“Immediately we received my husband’s body, his family did not allow me to perform my rites. They did not give me and the children access.”
The Nigerian boxer passed away in Ghana after collapsing at the Bukom Boxing Arena during an ill-fated fight with Ghana’s John Mbanugu.
Autopsy report later established that the Nigerian boxer died of cardiac arrest.
