The Northern Electricity Distribution Company Limited (NEDCo) has issued a strong advisory urging the public to strictly adhere to safety measures as several communities across the country grapple with rainstorms, flooding, and power outages.
Recent weather events have caused widespread havoc, with significant safety hazards arising from damaged electrical infrastructure. In a statement signed by Maxwell K. Kotoka, Manager of Corporate Communications at NEDCo, the public is cautioned to exercise extreme care and prioritise safety during this period of continued rainfall.
“We urge all residents to stay away from fallen power lines within NEDCo’s operational areas,” the statement read.
The company has directed its staff to cordon off all fallen or hanging power lines to protect both humans and livestock. It also appealed to the public to immediately report any damaged electrical infrastructure and avoid any attempt to repair such installations themselves.
“Do not attempt to repair any electrical installation yourself,” Mr. Kotoka warned.

NEDCo further advised consumers to switch off all electrical appliances during power outages to avoid potential damage when electricity is restored.
A severe rainstorm that swept through northern Ghana on the evening of Tuesday, 20 May 2025, caused extensive damage to NEDCo’s electricity distribution infrastructure, affecting several operational zones. Communities in Wa Central and Wa West (Upper West Region), the Upper East Region, Northern Region—including Tamale Metropolis—as well as Sunyani and Techiman have been impacted.
Mr Kotoka noted that technical teams are working tirelessly to assess the full extent of the damage and provide emergency solutions.
“Robust measures have been put in place to resolve the outstanding challenges and restore normalcy to affected areas within the shortest possible time,” he said.
NEDCo has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the outages and expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and cooperation.
“We express our deepest appreciation for your patience and understanding during these trying moments,” the statement concluded.
