Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has accused current OSP head Kissi Agyebeng of mismanaging GHC60 million that Amidu refused to spend during his tenure.
In an open letter obtained, Amidu claimed the funds—transferred to the OSP’s Bank of Ghana account in early 2020—were intended for renovating the agency’s 10-story headquarters through sole-sourced contracts.
“I resigned rather than engage in improper financial conduct,” Amidu stated, alleging Agyebeng’s administration “dissipated the sixty million Ghana cedis without accountability.” He further asserted that four subsequent OSP budgets (2020-2023) under NPP governance showed similar fiscal irresponsibility with minimal anti-corruption results.
Regarding the Ken Ofori-Atta investigation, Amidu questioned its timing: “The OSP avoided action while Ofori-Atta held office, only pursuing him after the NPP’s 2024 election loss.” He revealed Ofori-Atta’s legal team had offered virtual cooperation under Ghana’s Electronic Transactions Act, criticizing the OSP’s extradition announcement as trial by “public opinion.”
The allegations surface ahead of a June 18 Human Rights Court hearing concerning Ofori-Atta’s case. The OSP has not publicly responded to Amidu’s claims.
