The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced significant progress in the ongoing implementation of the “No Fees Stress” initiative for first-year university students, aimed at easing the financial burden on students entering public tertiary institutions.

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) on May 12, announced plans to reimburse academic user fees for first-year students enrolled in accredited diploma or degree programmes at public tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic year.

In a Facebook post shared on Wednesday, May 21, Mr Kwakye Ofosu revealed that 57,327 students have so far accessed the dedicated online portal, with 41,647 students having completed the registration process.

The registration, he explained, is a vital step in the reimbursement process for students who have already paid their academic fees.

It allows the government to securely obtain students’ banking details for direct refunds and also serves to validate lists submitted by public tertiary institutions.

“This process is essential to ensure that reimbursements reach the right students and that institutions’ submissions are accurate,” the Minister stated.

The “No Fees Stress” initiative is a government-backed programme designed to support students by covering tuition fees in public tertiary institutions, either through direct payment or a refund for those who have already paid out of pocket.
