
Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum was instrumental in Cercle Brugge’s dominant 5-1 win over Patro Eisden in the Belgian Pro League relegation playoff first leg.
Agyekum, who recently made his debut for the Ghana Black Stars in a 2026 World Cup qualification match against Chad, scored the opening goal in the 8th minute after a pass from Felipe Augusto.
Cercle Brugge controlled the match, with Paris Brunner netting twice in the 25th and 46th minute, whilst Felipe Augusto added another goal in the 58th minute.
Thibo Somers then sealed the victory with a goal in the 84th minute. Patro Eisden’s Vancy Romeo Mabanza scored a late consolation goal.
Agyekum, who recently signed 4 year a permanent deal with the club now, has three goals and two assists in 34 appearances this season.
Fellow Ghanaian midfielder Francis Abu played 73 minutes for Cercle Brugge. The win gives Cercle Brugge a strong advantage heading into the return fixture.
