Olive Tower Prayer Ministries, Unilever Ghana hold free health screening for 700 Pokuase M.A. Basic School students

Pokuase, Ghana — Olive Tower Prayer Ministries, in partnership with Unilever Ghana and the Oduman Polyclinic, organised a free dental and optical health screening for over 700 students of Pokuase M.A. Basic School on Tuesday, 15th April, 2025.

The outreach programme, held on the school’s premises, aimed to promote preventive healthcare and awareness among school-aged children. The initiative significantly impacted the health and well-being of the pupils, as well as the teachers and staff of Pokuase M.A. Basic School. Traditional leaders, municipal authorities, and members of the public also lent their support.

The Church and Child Development

The Founder and Head Servant of Olive Tower Prayer Ministries (OTPM), Apostle Dr Mrs Portia Olivia Lamptey, stated that investing in children’s health not only ensures healthy future leaders but also safeguards the future of parents and the elderly. She emphasised that the screening exercise was part of the church’s commitment to a holistic ministry that nurtures the body, soul, and spirit.

“Children are the future, and healthy children mean a healthy nation. This outreach reflects our commitment to community transformation beyond the church walls,” she said.

Call for Health Support and Security Measures

In her welcome address, the Headmistress of Pokuase M.A. Basic School, Madam Dora Gakpa, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers and partners.

“The health of our students is paramount to academic success. We are grateful to Olive Tower Prayer Ministries and all stakeholders for this life-changing initiative,” she said.

She further appealed to the public and corporate bodies for support in constructing a wall around the school to prevent encroachment and unauthorised entry.

Unilever Ghana’s Education Drive and Oduman Polyclinic’s Dedication

Unilever Ghana took the opportunity to educate the students on proper oral hygiene and donated Pepsodent toothpaste to all 700 students.

“Brushing twice daily is not just a habit — it’s a shield against tooth decay and gum disease. Visit the dentist at least once every six months, even if you feel fine,” Unilever representatives advised.

Medical personnel from the Oduman Polyclinic, including dentists and optometrists, conducted oral and eye examinations. Dr Newton [surname needed], who led the team, delivered a brief but insightful health education session.

“Cavities and gum disease are preventable with good oral habits. Your diet also plays a major role in both eye and oral health. Avoid excessive sugary foods and eat more fruits and vegetables,” Dr Newton urged.

Traditional and Civic Endorsement

The outreach was attended by the Queen Mother of Pokuase, Naa Klorkai Densua IV, and the Ga North Municipal Health Education Director, Madam Gifty Addison, who represented the Ga North Municipal Coordinating Director. Other dignitaries, opinion leaders, and sub-chiefs from Pokuase and nearby communities were also present.

Their presence demonstrated strong civic endorsement and community interest in student welfare. The Queen Mother described the event as “a timely intervention,” while the Ga North Municipal Coordinating Director commended the organisers and encouraged similar initiatives across schools in the municipality.

Looking Ahead

Apostle Dr Mrs Portia Olivia Lamptey noted that Olive Tower Prayer Ministries is actively exploring further opportunities for faith-based community outreach. The church plans to replicate similar health screening exercises in neighbouring schools and underserved communities.
