The Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) has called off its plan to suspend healthcare services to NHIS cardholders, following a strong assurance from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to settle outstanding claims by Monday, 7th April 2025.

The decision, which was initially set to take effect on Friday, 4th April 2025, came after PHFAoG expressed concerns over delayed reimbursements, which had led to severe financial challenges within the private healthcare sector. The suspension was a response to the NHIA’s failure to pay claims on time.

However, after a meeting between PHFAoG and NHIA management, the private healthcare body received a renewed commitment from the NHIA to clear all outstanding payments by the close of business on Monday, 7th April. In light of this, PHFAoG has agreed to halt the suspension for now.

In a statement released on Sunday, April 6 PHFAoG noted that, “We have been given a firm assurance of payment by the NHIA. In good faith, we have decided to suspend our ongoing action, but should the NHIA fail to honour this promise, we will be forced to take drastic action.”

Dr. Asare Bampoe, the Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, reiterated his commitment to ensuring a smoother and more efficient reimbursement process. He emphasised his desire to contribute to building a stronger healthcare sector in Ghana.

All private healthcare facilities nationwide are therefore advised to adhere to this directive in
all humility and continue to provide healthcare to the best of their capacity towards ensuring a
healthy population, as per the directive from PHFAoG.
