American rapper Ja Rule, during his recent visit to Ghana, made an interesting revelation about a song he did with a Ghanaian musician over a decade ago.

In an interview with JoyNews’ Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah, he mentioned that he had worked on a song with a Ghanaian artiste about about ten years ago but couldn’t recall the name.

“You know, it’s so funny to say that I did a record a long time ago with a Ghanaian artiste. I have forgotten his name but this is like ten, fifteen years ago when I came over here. And we recorded right here in their studio, and it was dope,” he said when he was asked by Jacqueline about a possible collaboration with a Ghanaian artiste.

Ja Rule indicated that with the current vibrancy Afrobeats has gained across the world, he could still have collaborative works with other Ghanaian musicians.

It didn’t take long after an old video of a studio session of Ghanaian rapper Tinny and Ja Rule surfaced online. They had recorded a song titled ‘Good Time Rules’. This collaboration was necessitated by Tinny’s record label at the time, Maddhaus Entertainment.

The joint project was done at a time when Tinny was at his peak in the music industry, dominating the music scene with hits like Makola Kwakwe, Anaconda, Obi Do Ba, Ringtone, Zingolo, among others.

However, the song was not officially released. Tinny spoke about it during an interview on YFM in 2015. He said even though the record never got a release date, it was still in his archives because he did not own the rights to the song.

“I did that record when I was with this record label called Maddhaus Entertainment and so they own that record. Everything is with them and they will decide to release it or not.

Ja Rule came to Ghana and the management met him and played him some of my records and he loved them and he was like ‘let’s go do a song together’. That was when Richie of Lynx Entertainment was coming up. We brought the data to Maddhaus studio and did it. It’s called Good Time Rules. I have it but I don’t own it so I will not like to drop it. But you know I have moved on,” he said.

In the meantime, another song by a Ghanaian that features Ja Rule has also surfaced online. This song produced and performed by Morris Babyface in 2009 is titled <a href="http://”>‘Hey Love’.

These two songs have generated conversations on social media and evoked nostalgia among music lovers who had already listened to them before Ja Rule’s interview.

Meanwhile, some music lovers are confused about whether Ja Rule was making reference to Tinny or Morris Babyface.
