The Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education in Amedzofe in the Ho West District of the Volta Region has officially matriculated 315 students for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The new cohort includes 143 students were admitted to pursue a Bachelor of Education in Junior High School (JHS), 128 students enrolled in Bachelor of Education in Primary Education, and 44 students in Early Grade Education.

Additionally, 32 applicants have been accepted into the Bachelor of Education in Basic Education with a specialization in French.

Addressing the matriculation ceremony, the Principal of the College, Dr. Dickson Tsey noted that in accordance with the College’s Affirmative Action and Gender Inclusive policies 150 male and 165 female applicants were admitted.

He also highlighted that opportunities were given to applicants with talents in sports disciplines who met the college’s minimum general entry requirements and demonstrated athletic abilities.

Dr. Tsey encouraged the new students to embrace their academic journey with “passion and curiosity,” emphasizing the importance of acquiring knowledge to transform both themselves and society.

Furthermore, he advised them to seek guidance from peers, lecturers, and mentors during challenging times, encouraging them to “collaborate, share ideas, and create meaningful connections that will enrich your experience.”

The Member of Parliament for Afraim Plains, Worlase Kpeli, who is also an alumnus of the College, urged the students to identify teaching as a foundational gateway to the professional world.

He described teaching as “the stem to wealth,” as it provides essential training to easily transition into various professions.

Using his career journey as an example, Mr. Kpeli illustrated how his background in teaching equipped him with the skills needed to become a lawyer and subsequently a politician and lawmaker.

“Being a teacher to teach in other aspects of life is an ultimate profession you can have” adding that “the foundation you choose today will give you an edge over every contemporary.”

Mrs. Mariam Adzroe

The Volta Regional Deputy Director of Education, Mrs. Mariam Adzroe, praised the lecturers for their role in producing educators who will train the next generation.

She emphasized the significance of the teaching profession as a fulfilling career and urged students to strive to enhance the country’s human resources.

“Take good care of yourselves, be resilient, be smart, and above all, believe in yourselves because you were carefully made,” she concluded.
