The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has confirmed that he declared his assets in accordance with the constitution a day after assuming his new position.

In an interview with JoyNews’ Winston Amoah on the Super Morning Show on Wednesday, 19th February, Prof. Gyampo stated, “I think it was the very day or the day after, I was in the office.”

He explained that he had initially asked his “friend Martin Kpebu to obtain the form for him, but that was delayed”, so he arranged for others to acquire the form.

After filling it out, he “personally contacted the Auditor-General to submit it, unfortunately, the Auditor-General was not in the office at the time, so he directed one of his officials to attend to me”

He said he was given a receipt as proof of submission adding that, “As a teacher, I have declared the little that I have.”

Prof. Gyampo emphasised that declaring assets is a constitutional requirement for public office holders and expressed that he had no issue with doing so.

He urged other public officials to follow suit, stating, “I think the right thing to do is to abide by what the law says, so I just did it, and all others must do the same.”

Appointed by President John Mahama to lead the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof. Gyampo was previously a lecturer at the University of Ghana.

President Mahama has also instructed all public officials to declare their assets by the end of the first quarter of the year, as part of efforts to combat and discourage corruption in the country.
