Professor Seidu Hassan, the Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), announced at the weekend that this year, UDS has been selected to receive the best African Agrifood Knowledge Transfer Partnership Award (AAKTP).

He said the award was organised by the Innovate UK (IUK) under the 2024 Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Award Programme and is scheduled to take place in November this year in the UK.

The graduation ceremony was held in Tamale.

He stated that the award comes after the university, led by its research team, in collaboration with the Savanah Sahel Commodities Ltd, a local NGO, undertook impactful research to produce a nutritious fortified breakfast meal called C-Real.

He added, “This initiative empowers universities and companies to collaboratively tackle pressing societal and industrial challenges. “

Professor Hassan noted that the award represents an outstanding achievement and is a testament to UDS’s commitment to innovative and impactful research in agriculture and healthcare.

He also disclosed that the UDS has been granted accreditation to run new programmes cutting across various disciplines at the bachelor’s level, including the BSc Dentistry, B.Sc. Mental Health Nursing and Bachelor of Law and at the post-graduate level, the university have the following: MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation, MSc Development Finance, MSc Accounting MSc Nursing MBA Finance, MBA Health Service Administration, MBA Accounting

MBA Management Information Systems

MBA Procurement and Supply Chain Management.

He urged the students to support champions of peace education through various initiatives to promote peace during and after this year’s general election.

Professor Hassan stated that 4,253 students graduated, with the male figure slightly above 50.6% and their female counterparts at 49.4%. Of the total number, 65 are postgraduate students, 13 are PhD students, and 52 are PhD and Master’s Degree students, respectively.

Noted that at the undergraduate level, 3,463 81.4% students are proudly receiving their Bachelor’s Degrees; of this cohort, 1,680, representing 48.5%, were male while the rest, 1,783 (51.5%) were female, and in additionally, 725 students are graduating with diplomas.

Alhaj Shaani Alhassan Sayibu, the Northern Regional Minister, in a speech read on his behalf, said the Government is committed to supporting the UDS in fulfilling its mandate as a public University and will continue to ensure that the UDS receives the resources it needs to deliver on its mission.

He advised the graduates to use the knowledge they acquired from the university to support government developmental initiatives and promote the country’s vision.
