Aflao top

In my recent travels to Aflao, a bustling town renowned for its vibrant border activities and cultural richness, I found myself drawn to the local beach. Amidst my explorations, a thought persistently occupied my mind: Why does Aflao Beach lack the golden allure of Keta Beach? This disparity sparked in me a desire for change, for an evolution that could elevate Aflao Beach to its deserved glory.

The beaches in Keta are undergoing a remarkable transformation, becoming cleaner and more inviting. This metamorphosis is something I dream of for Aflao Beach. During my time here, I’ve developed a fondness for the beach’s unique charm, yet I can’t help but imagine how much more inviting it could be if it mirrored the pristine, golden sands of Keta.

My proposition is straightforward yet impactful: I urge the local Member of Parliament, Honourable Abla Dzifa Gomashie, to consider establishing a dedicated Beach Clean Up and Security agency. This agency would be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the beach, perhaps through daily or weekly clean-up operations. Additionally, a specialised patrol unit could ensure the beach’s security, particularly during dawn and dusk, to prevent unsanitary practices that currently mar its beauty.

Aflao’s status as a bustling border town and one of the most active locales in the Volta region, second only to the capital city Ho, positions it perfectly to become a hub for sustainable tourism. This potential economic boon could greatly benefit the local community if harnessed correctly.

An intriguing question also arises regarding the differing impacts of coastal erosion in the area. While the sea gradually encroaches upon Keta Beach, Aflao Beach remains relatively unaffected. This phenomenon warrants further investigation and could be integral to developing a robust, long-term plan for Aflao’s coastal areas.

I appeal to Madam Dzifa to consider drafting a comprehensive tourism plan for Aflao. Such a plan could transform Aflao Beach into one of the region’s cleanest and most attractive destinations, reflecting the town’s inherent vibrancy and ‘swag.’

As I continue my stay in Aflao, mingling with the locals and absorbing the town’s unique atmosphere, I am ever more convinced of its potential as a tourist haven. Despite my limited social circle here, my encounters with notable personalities like Queen Azim Palmer and my elusive Rasta Twin Selecktors have enriched my experience.

In conclusion, I see immense potential for Aflao Beach, not just as a natural wonder, but as a cornerstone for sustainable economic development through tourism. It’s time for action, for transformation, and for realising the true potential of this vibrant coastal town.
