Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo has organised a Conference for Supervising High Court Judges, Regional Administrative Officers and Court Registrars of the Judicial Service.

According to her, the conference is to enhance the administration of justice and ensure a responsive legal system that addresses the needs of Ghanaians.

Speaking at the conference, Justice Torkornoo said “Court Registrars play a pivotal role in the justice delivery system and as quasi-judicial officers, it is important that they are informed, possess integrity and strong leadership skills.”

This was contained in a press statement signed and issued by the Director of Communications at the Judicial Service, J.R. Ampong-Fosu on Tuesday, November 28.

The one-day conference which was spearheaded by the Judicial Training Institute (OTI) in the Southern sector was held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra under the theme; “Building the Pillars of Justice in Coherence and Harmony”.

The main objective of the conference was to enhance the justice administration by addressing relevant and practical models to remove barriers to aid in the efficiency and effectiveness of justice delivery.

It aimed to involve participants in finding practical solutions to issues which work against the effective and efficient delivery of services to the public.

The one-day conference identified institutional and structural barriers that affect work at the registry level and in overall judicial administration.

There were interactions with the Chief Justice, the Management, Supervising High Court Judges, Regional Administrative Officers and Court Registrars who exchanged ideas and dialogued on strategies and policy documents that will promote the efficiency and effectiveness in court administration.

In regard to the conference, some Directors of the Judicial Service made presentations on identified areas of concern, followed by breakout sessions that addressed practical challenges in administrative/registry work such as execution, bail, letters of administration and preparation of warrants.

The Conference Rapporteur and a Justice of the High Court and Quality Assurance Manager of the Judicial Service, Justice Dorothy Kingsley-Nyinah presented the ‘Conference Communique on Achieving Coherence and Harmony while Building the Pillars of Justice’ at the end of the conference.

The press statement added that a similar conference will be held in the Northern Sector for Supervising Judges, Regional Administrators and Registrars.
