Political scientist, Dr Richard Amoako Baah believes the former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen could win the 2024 presidential election if he puts in the required effort.

In an interview with Nhyira FM’s Nana Jantuah on the “Kuro yi mu nsem” show, Dr Amoako Baah said he expects Ghanaians to choose a different alternative this time around.

According to him, Ghanaians have two options in choosing a president in 2024, and neither of them is a good option.

“We don’t need NPP and NDC again. They have destroyed governance,” he said.

“We have gone to the IMF 17 times, and in 2025 we will go back the 18th time. That means there is something fundamentally wrong. The leadership is not good. We don’t have good imagination or thinking. Our election has turned into a popularity contest”.

Dr Amoako Baah explained that Alan did not have much of a choice except to quit the New Patriotic Party.

He believes Mr Kyerematen’s political career would have ended if he did not win the flagbearership and the NPP did not win in 2024.

He further explained that Ghanaians may prefer Alan over other presidential candidates because the other candidates have had the mandate before but failed.

He cited Ghanaians’ disappointment in the ruling government and the opposition party.

“Alan would look like a better choice for the people since they have not experienced him ruling before,” he said.

Alan Kyerematen resigned from the New Patriotic Party and declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential election in Ghana.

This is not the first time Alan is quitting the party. After the 2007 presidential primaries where he contested against Akufo-Addo, he raised issues with the process just as he has done now, and went ahead to resign.

However, after the party promised to address his concerns, he returned to the NPP, only to resign again now to contest the national election as an independent candidate.
