The Ashanti regional police command has announced the arrest of three suspected armed robbers alleged to be terrorising residents of Kenyasi and its environs.

On May 8, 2025, Umar Issah, Sherif Mohammed, and Abdul Jalelu, aged between 19 and 26, allegedly attacked and robbed two Kenyasi residents at gunpoint. The suspects, operating on three separate motorbikes, forcibly took the victims’ mobile phones and attempted to flee the scene.

The Kenyasi police patrol team apprehended the suspects shortly after the incident.

“During the pursuit, suspects Sharif Mohammed sustained a gunshot wound on the right rib, whiles the others also suffered various injuries and are receiving medical treatment at Komfo Anokye under strict police protection,” said DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Police PRO.

The stolen mobile phones and the motorbikes used in the robbery have been retrieved and are being held for evidential purposes as investigations continue.

The police have also arrested 32-year-old Michael Owusu Ansah, alias Baby Last, a suspect on the police wanted list since 2016 in connection with a robbery and the murder of police officer Frank Essel of the SWAT in Ashanti, which occurred at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso on May 19, 2016.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to engaging in multiple street and residential robberies in Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, Asuoyeboah, and surrounding areas.

He also disclosed that his gang operated with knives, pistols, and pump-action guns. Further investigations led to the identification and arrest of four accomplices, namely Emmanuel Owusu, alias Cassidy; Maxwell Gyimah, alias Nana Kwame; Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah, alias The Man Sudais; and Rhano Okyere, alias Demon.

These individuals were arrested from their hideouts within Atwima-Techiman and Denchemuoso. However, one suspect, known only as Abedi, remains at large.
