3 sentence 24 months, another on trial over fraud, adoption at Kasoa

The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court, presided over by Nana Asantewaa Atakorah, has sentenced three persons to 24 months’ imprisonment with hard labour, while another suspect remains on trial in connection with fraud and illegal adoption linked to a QNet scam.

The suspects were arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), with five victims rescued in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

The convicts are Elizabeth Agyekumwaa, 24; Emmanuel Kyei, 23; and Issah Safianu, 23. Another suspect, Prince Akwesi Ntim, 23, is currently standing trial.

The case investigator, Chief Inspector Josephine Amoasi, told the court that on December 26, 2025, the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Directorate received information that a 23-year-old woman, Priscilla Ninson, had gone missing from Asamankese in the Eastern Region and was suspected to be in Kasoa.

She said that on January 3, 2026, PID officers began investigations, during which the suspects sent a text message to the victim’s mother, requesting that she bring medication to Kasoa because her daughter was unwell.

Acting on this information, police officers from the PID posed as the victim’s relatives and arranged to meet the suspects under the Kasoa Overpass to deliver the medication, without the suspects knowing they were dealing with police officers.

Chief Inspector Amoasi told the court that a team of 10 PID officers first arrested Prince Akwesi Ntim, which subsequently led to the arrest of the remaining suspects and the rescue of five victims.

She added that some of the victims were from Techiman, Obuasi, Kumasi, and other parts of the country.

Investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in a QNet scam, demanding GH¢30,000 from victims under the pretext of facilitating travel to Germany.

The presiding judge, Nana Asantewaa Atakorah, sentenced three of the suspects to 24 months’ imprisonment with hard labour and ordered that a pregnancy test be conducted on the female suspect before passing sentence on her.

The three convicted persons will each serve eight months, while the female suspect is expected to reappear before the court on Wednesday.
