Three promising players from the Kenpong Football Academy in Winneba are set to travel to Belgium to sign professional contracts with Belgian clubs.

The players — Nana Yaw Carther, Godfred Owusu and Desmond Korletey — have been handed opportunities with Belgian side KV Mechelen following their impressive performances during a tour of Belgium by the academy in 2025.

During that visit, the Kenpong Football Academy team participated in a series of friendly matches under a collaboration with KV Mechelen.

The performances of the three young players caught the attention of the club’s technical team, which subsequently extended invitations for them to return to Belgium.

Founder of the academy and businessman, Kennedy Agyapong, is expected to personally lead the delegation to Belgium to support the players as they take the next step in their football development.

Kenpong Football Academy, based in the Central Region town of Winneba, combines formal education with structured football training, ensuring that young players pursue both academic and sporting development.

The three players are currently enrolled in school while continuing their football training under the supervision of the academy and their families.

Their upcoming trip forms part of a broader international exposure programme being pursued by the academy to give young talents opportunities to showcase their abilities abroad.

Last year, a group of players from Cote D’Ivoire joined the academy on its tour of Belgium and this time around, another set of players is also expected to travel to Denmark soon, while the academy has lined up a series of invitational tournaments in France and Norway ahead of the FIFA World Cup scheduled to begin in June.

The academy has also been active within the West African football circuit. It recently participated in an invitational youth tournament in Ivory Coast that brought together academies from Mali, Guinea and the host nation.

Officials of the academy say these international engagements are aimed at providing young players with exposure, competitive experience and opportunities to progress into professional football.
