Three aspirants have picked up nomination forms to contest the forthcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Akwatia Constituency.
The hopefuls include former Member of Parliament, Henry Boakye; the current NDC Akwatia Constituency Secretary, Bernard Bediako Baidoo; and Erasmus Koney Ali.
According to the party’s outlined timetable, the three candidates — along with any others who submit nominations before the deadline on Wednesday, 30 July — will undergo vetting on Thursday, 31 July. Balloting will follow immediately to determine positions ahead of the primaries, scheduled for Monday, 4 August 2025.
The internal contest comes in the wake of the passing of the sitting MP, which has necessitated a by-election in the constituency.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is reported to have settled on Solomon Kwame Asumadu, Chief Executive of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate.
The party stated that this decision emerged from extensive stakeholder consultations, which led to a consensus rather than a contested primary.
