The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Students’ Representative Council (SRC), under the leadership of Abraham Norman Nortey, has once again reinforced its commitment to student welfare by offering financial assistance to 28 students for the 2024/2025 academic year.

This support, facilitated through the SRC Life Insurance Policy, ensures that the beneficiaries have their tuition fees and allowances fully covered, alleviating the financial burdens that could otherwise hinder their academic progress.

Commitment to Student Welfare

The Norman-led SRC has consistently demonstrated its dedication to ensuring that no student is left behind due to financial constraints. By covering the educational expenses of these students, the SRC is not only providing relief to financially struggling students but also fostering an environment where academic excellence can thrive.

Speaking on the initiative, SRC President Abraham Norman Nortey reiterated the council’s commitment to prioritizing student welfare and academic success. He emphasized that the financial assistance programme was designed to ensure that deserving students facing economic hardships are given the necessary support to continue their studies without worry.

“Your academic success is our priority, and we remain committed to supporting you every step of the way,” Mr Norman Nortey assured.

Impact on Beneficiaries

The 28 students who benefited from this initiative expressed deep gratitude to the SRC for the timely intervention. Many of them faced the risk of dropping out due to financial difficulties, but this assistance has given them renewed hope and motivation to excel academically.

One of the beneficiaries, a second-year student in the Faculty of Education, shared how the initiative had lifted a significant burden off her family. “I was on the verge of deferring my studies because my parents couldn’t afford my fees. This intervention is a lifesaver, and I am deeply grateful to the SRC for this incredible support,” she said.

Another student from the College of Humanities and Legal Studies highlighted how this financial aid would enable him to focus entirely on his studies without the constant worry about financial constraints.

Sustaining the Initiative

The SRC Life Insurance Policy, under which this support is provided, remains one of the council’s key initiatives aimed at improving student welfare. The SRC has assured the student body that it will continue to advocate for and implement policies that address pressing student concerns.

Beyond financial assistance, the Norman-led SRC has also introduced various student-centered initiatives, including academic support programmes, mental health awareness campaigns, and advocacy for better student services within the university.

A Call for Support

While the SRC has taken proactive steps to support students in need, it has also called on stakeholders, including the university administration, alumni, and corporate organizations, to partner with them in sustaining such initiatives. The goal is to ensure that more students facing financial hardships can receive the assistance they need to complete their education successfully.

As the academic year progresses, the Norman-led SRC continues to set a high standard for student leadership, demonstrating a firm commitment to ensuring that every UCC student has an equal opportunity to succeed regardless of their financial background.

This initiative stands as a testament to the SRC’s unwavering resolve in championing student empowerment and academic excellence.
