WBC USA Super middleweight champion, Sena Agbeko, has a shot at becoming a world champion, twenty-two days after Isaac Dogboe’s world title defeat left Ghanaians with sore hearts.
After his unanimous victory over Isaiah Steen in November 2022, Agbeko highlighted his desire to annex a world title, and five months down the line, he can make his wish a reality.
He takes on Cuban, David Morrell for the WBA Super middleweight title in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This will be Morrell’s first fight since his KO win over Aidos Yerbossynuly – in a bout which ended the career of the Kazakhstani.
The fight will be an undercard to the Gervonta Davis-Ryan Garcia catchweight bout.
Ghana’s 2023 world title hopes rests on Agbeko, but he comes up against a man who became a world champion five fights into his professional career.
“It is a picture length for the trained journalist and this is the biggest day of his career, so he has to dig deep and make sure he puts up the kind of attack, defence and ring generalship needed to overcome Morrell.
“The complex nature of this bout lies in the fact he is going up against the reigning champion and over there it has to be either a knockout or beating him convincingly, so no judge can get up to anything shady – which is sometimes the case on big days like these,” JoySports boxing specialist, Nathaniel Attoh said in a pre-bout analysis.
