The 2025 edition of OMJ Soccerfest ended in Obodan, Akuapem South, after weeks of zonal qualifiers and high anticipation across the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The tournament, launched on June 28 at Arrow Events Annexe in Aburi, captured participation from 24 out of 26 electoral areas in the municipality, culminating in twelve towns securing their place in the finals.
Held under the theme “Harnessing talents for a sustainable national development,” this year’s Soccerfest not only provided thrilling football but also offered participants a pathway to opportunity.
The standout prize was a full scholarship for the overall best player (MVP) to pursue a football career in Turkey. Additional rewards included a giant trophy, medals, sets of jerseys, cash prizes, citations, and household items such as gas stoves.
Ahead of the finals, His Royal Majesty Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, Okuapehene and overlord of Akuapem, blessed the competition at his palace in Akropong during the last ‘Awukudae’ of the year.
The king signed an official tournament ball and a jersey for the MVP, symbolising his endorsement of the event. He was also presented with a customised OMJ Foundation shirt by the organisers.
The climax in Obodan brought together chiefs, political figures, religious leaders, academics, security personnel, and both domestic and international scouts. A delegation from the Ministry of Sports also attended to show support for the initiative.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the OMJ Foundation, Mr. Osei Mensah Joseph, praised stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the event. He highlighted the impact of OMJ’s broader initiatives, including youth empowerment, education support, and advocacy projects.
As tradition required, the OMJ Foundation presented gifts to the Okuapehene, including a specially designed jersey with the iconic number ‘3’ in honour of his name.
The king’s blessings and symbolic autograph on the official match ball capped a Soccerfest that organisers and participants hailed as a milestone for youth football development in the region.
