Ghanaian duo Grace Asantewaa and Portia Boakye have been named in the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Team of the Tournament, following their standout performances at the competition.
Despite a sluggish start, the Black Queens rallied impressively to clinch third place, overcoming Algeria in the quarterfinals and dethroning defending champions South Africa in the third-place playoff.
Asantewaa was a midfield powerhouse throughout the campaign, dictating play with composure and vision. Her commanding display in the quarterfinal win over Algeria earned her a Player of the Match award.
Team captain Portia Boakye also proved vital to Ghana’s success, providing experience, leadership, and consistent performances across all matches. Her influence on and off the pitch was key to the Queens’ bronze medal finish.

The pair’s inclusion in the Tournament Best XI sees them join a host of African stars, including Esther Okoronkwo and Rashidat Ajibade of Nigeria, Ghizlane Chebbak of Morocco, and Karabo Dhlamini of South Africa.
