Defending champions FC Samartex 1996 secured a 2-1 victory over Aduana Stars on matchday 33 of the Ghana Premier League at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, bringing an impressive close to their home campaign.
The Timber Giants, who have had a difficult campaign this season wrapped up nicely in front of their home fans. They took the lead midway through the first half through in-form forward Baba Hamadu Musa, who calmly converted a well-worked team move to register his 12th goal of the season.
Aduana Stars responded after the break, levelling through a powerful header from Bright Adjei following a corner. The visitors threatened to spoil Samartex’s celebrations, but the hosts restored their lead with just under 20 minutes to play. Stephen Amankona latched onto a defensive lapse to slot home the winner and seal all three points.
The victory underlines Samartex’s dominance throughout the 2023/24 campaign. It was their 17th home win of the season, maintaining their status as the league’s best home performers.
The champions will conclude their season away from home on matchday 34, while Aduana Stars will seek to end their campaign on a positive note after falling short in the title race.
