Ghana’s U20 side, the Black Satellites, side secured a 1-0 win against West African counterparts Benin in the final group match of the WAFU-B Boys Cup.
A well-executed low strike in the second half from Golden Kicks striker Bless Ege was enough to send the team into the semifinals despite Ghana going a man down in the first half.
Medeama SC winger Kelvin Nkrumah was shown a red card, reducing the Satellites to ten men.
The Black Satellites, however, face a tough test in the semifinals, with their likely opponent being Ivory Coast.
Head coach Desmond Ofei remains optimistic about his team’s chances, even after a challenging start to the tournament.
“We needed this because we had to show some character,” he said.
“For this [character] is what was missing in the last game and the boys showed that today.”
