Ten (10) cancer patients at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have received financial assistance from the Kumi Yeboah Memorial Foundation in memory of the founder’s father, who died of cancer.

A financial donation of GHS10,000 was made to the patients while they were receiving various treatments at the referral hospital.

Each patient received GHS1000, which was given to them by the foundation’s administrators.

Mr. Kumi Yeboah, who was known for being generous to the disadvantaged in society, died of cancer in 2022.

Mr Yeboah, 68, had been battling cancer for six months.

He worked as a professional teacher at Agogo D/A JHS in the Ashanti region’s Atwima Nwabiagya South, where he taught and assisted the disadvantaged.

In his honor, a foundation was founded to assist widows, orphans, and other disadvantaged members of society.

Osei Bonsu Shadrack, the foundation’s public relations officer, stated that there was a need to assist cancer patients.

Most cancer patients become even more impoverished after spending large sums on drugs to alleviate their situations.

Some are left at home or in the oncology departments of various hospitals because they do not have enough money to pay for their treatment.

Mr. Shadrack remarked that the donation was made in commemoration of the late Mr. Yeboah’s memorial anniversary, which was held on Monday, May 22, 2023.

He further indicated that, the money given to each patient is a gesture of love and an effort to help them pay their medical fees.

Mr. Shadrack urged other individuals and organizations to join the foundation in reaching out to the poor in society.

Dr. Bawuah Osei Bonsu, Head of the Oncology Department at KATH, thanked the foundation for its assistance while emphasizing the exorbitant expense of cancer patients.

According to Dr. Bonsu, the current circumstance makes it difficult for most patients to pay their medical fees.

He said institutions and individuals have started assisting patients at the department in a similar manner in order to relieve them of that burden.

The medical officer applauds the foundation’s generosity and encourages other well-meaning individuals and organizations to follow suit.
