The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has emphasised that the party is currently prioritising internal restructuring and reflection, rather than rushing to court public support following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

He indicated that a thorough evaluation of the party’s shortcomings was underway to better position it for future success.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Wednesday, 18 June, Mr Kodua addressed concerns about the NPP’s decision to hold its next presidential primaries on 31 January 2026 and called for the party to show greater accountability to voters.

He maintained that a clear understanding of internal failures was essential before making renewed appeals to the electorate.

“They say charity begins at home,” he said.

“So internally, what are the leakages? What were the shortfalls of the thing that happened, which culminated in us losing the elections?”

According to Mr Kodua, the party’s defeat was not solely the result of its governance record, but also due to deeper issues within its structure and operations.

He explained that a special committee led by Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye had completed a detailed post-election review, which examined both internal and external factors.

“The committee looked at several aspects — the governance aspect, the party’s internal systems or structures, our campaign strategy and message, and our communication. So they are multifaceted,” he noted.

This comprehensive analysis, he added, would guide the party’s decisions moving forward and help restore confidence within its base.

Mr Kodua reiterated that the NPP’s current focus is on rebuilding from within, rather than engaging in premature political posturing.

He insisted that genuine renewal must begin with honest introspection, adding that this approach is key to winning back the trust of the Ghanaian people in subsequent elections.
