Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, says the verdict of the alleged match-fixing scandal involving Ashgold SC and International Allies FC will soon be announced.

An alleged match-fixing scandal rocked ghana football in a matchday 34 fixture involving the two clubs at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium in the 2020/21 football season.

The players of both teams on the field of play were suspicious as it appeared there was a predetermined scoreline.

Going into the game, Inter Allies had already been relegated and did not mount any aggressive resistance, as the miners scored five unanswered goals to highlight the scoreline that was already in the public space.

But a defender of Inter Allies FC, Hashmin Musah, deliberately scored two own goals getting to the end of the match to increase the tally of the miners to 7-0.

According to the Inter Allies player, the team heard while in their hotel before kickoff that the match will end in a 5-0 scoreline favouring the host AshantiGold SC.

Hashmin Musah, in a radio interview, admitted that he intentionally scored the two own goals to ‘spoil’ the 5-0 scoreline because of his religious beliefs.

The FA instituted an investigation into the match, but the verdict has been delayed, giving room to speculations that nothing positive will come out of it.

But speaking on Luv Fm’s “Kickoff” Show, Henry Asante Twum indicated that the long-awaited verdict is set to be announced in the coming days.

“I have always called for patience. I know the disciplinary committee have been working exceedingly well, and by the time the verdict comes out, I’m sure people will appreciate the fact that the {disciplinary committee} needed time to dig deep and to find out what might have really happened not only in respect to that particular game but other matches as well.

“I am sure that in the coming days, not too far from today, it could be 48 hours or 72 hours the verdict on that Ashgold versus Inter Allies issue may be released, and once that is done, it gives us the opportunity to now bring sanity into the system”.

Inter Allies are currently playing in the second tier of Ghana football, while AshantiGold SC is still the Ghana premier league participant.
