The Wenchi Municipal Assembly in the Bono region has commissioned and handed over a new police post at Tromeso, a farming community for enhanced security.

Construction of the new police post forms part of the assembly’s efforts to bring security closer to the people in maintaining law and order.

The project started during the tenure of the former MCE, Hakibu Dauda, under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration and continued by the immediate past MCE, Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie.

In the spirit of continuity, the current MCE for Wenchi, Alexander Obour Damoah, fought hard to get the project completed to enhance the security situation within the Tromeso enclave.

Addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Tromeso, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Alexander Obour Damoah, underscored the need for a police post in the area, urging the community to cooperate and support the police to discharge their constitutional duties.

He further cautioned the people of Tromeso not to interfere with the duties of the police posted, to man the police post and appealed to the police personnel to be patient with the community.

Mr Damoah commended his predecessors, Hakibu Dauda and Dr Prince Kwakye Afriyie, for initiating a project to ensure law and order in Teomeso and nearby communities.

He pledged to provide other facilities, such as a fence wall around the post, to enhance the safety of the personnel.

The Bono Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Joseph Oklu Gyamerah, noted that the police post will strengthen justice and security in the area.

He urged the public to volunteer information to assist the Ghana Police Service to smoke out suspected criminals in the area.

He said, “It is important that community members provide key information to the police to flush out suspected criminals from the area to enable the people to go about their normal activities without fear”.

DCOP Gyamerah encouraged chiefs and opinion leaders to desist from unnecessarily interfering with the duties of the police.

He advised police personnel posted to the area to ensure maintenance culture of the facility whilst exhibiting professionalism and the best standard practice of the police service.

The Chief of Tromeso, Nana Akatawiri Acheampong Amlado, pledged his continuous support for the police to protect his people.

He cautioned the community people against vandalizing the police post at the slightest provocation like other towns and communities have done in the past.

Nana Amlado asked the people to appreciate the role of the police in their fight against crimes such as armed robbery.
