Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has urged traditional authorities and other opinion leaders in the country to take a keen interest in the education of students in their areas.

He explained that although it was the responsibility of the government to spearhead the development of education and other initiatives, there was the need for all citizens as part of their civic responsibilities to play their roles in ensuring that children stayed in school till completion.

The Education Minister made the call when some traditional leaders from Manya Krobo traditional area paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday in Accra.

He also reminded the stakeholders to make it a point to visit schools to motivate students and their teachers when they have time.

Purpose of visit

The delegation paid a visit to congratulate the Education Minister on his appointment as a substantive Minister by President Akufo-Addo and to wish him well in his role as he continues to transform the country’s educational development.

Dr Adutwum said for the nation to make gains in its development agenda, there was the need for all to adopt new ways of doing things if the nation was to make any new gains in the various facets of the economy.

He said the introduction of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) initiative is a game-changer and is gradually changing the narrative for the training of the youth to be able to either study further or join the nation’s workforce.

Truncation of ongoing reforms

He again cautioned all Ghanaians against any attempt at truncating the ongoing education reforms which when continued for a few years would yield good results for the nation.

He was particularly happy with the way the Education Minister was leading the drive for the infrastructural development in all regions, and traditional areas irrespective of their political orientation as well as the restructuring of the education curriculum to match the 21st century standards.
