The ongoing strike by the senior staff unions in public tertiary educational institutions has crippled essential services at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Kumasi Technical University with offices locked and staff absent.
The campuses of KNUST and KsTU remain quiet on day two of the industrial action of senior staff unions, with offices locked and administrative duties abandoned.

The strike is affecting critical roles such as laboratory caretakers, security, hospital workers, and administrative personnel, forcing other university offices reliant on these services to suspend operations.
On Wednesday, 21st May 2025 the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG) and Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) began an industrial action following a delay in the implementation of some negotiated agreements.
This disruption has created a multi-faceted crisis, entangling even non-striking university members.
“I came and the offices are closed. With the work I do, I am supposed to submit some invoices to the finance officer, but I learned he didn’t come. Then I guess I have to wait till when he resumes,” a staff seeking services said.
Meanwhile, as negotiations to call off the strike continued, the striking staff are being admonished to staff off post.
“Although all unit executives are in a close meeting in Accra, I am not expecting members to defile the directive. KNUST will not act in individuality,” said George Ansong, President of the KNUST Senior Staff Association.
At the Kumasi Technical University, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Kwame Boakye Dapaah is snooping the environment in full gear to ensure compliance of the directive.
He is disappointed by the prolonged approach to bring finality to the unions’ demands.
“I cannot speak to how soon the strike will be called off. We have been dragging this out for a very long time. So KTU stands in line with strike action, which seems like our only resort,” he said.
