Corona virus pandemic continues to disrupt life with very little signs of relief globally. According to WHO, one of the preventive measures or protocols for COVID-19 is regular washing of hands under running water.
In light of this, Member of Parliament for Ho West and a ranking member, works and housing committee Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has discharge his displeasure on the shortage of water in Accra at this era of Covid-19 when water plays an important role in our day to day activity.
Hon. Bedzrah Speaking to the press said, efforts at dealing with the debilitating effects of the Corona virus continues to unsettle many nation but sadly, in Ghana’s case, Accra which is the most populous city, and for that matter the epicenter of corona virus cases in Ghana has had its situation compounded over the past week with an appalling water shortage which is biting hard without any explanation from authorities he lamented
The Ho West MP said he remember vividly that the president decided to give free water to citizens due to the purpose of COVID-19. But unfortunately, some places like, Adenta, Madina, Ashaley Botwe, Dansoman, Teshie, La, Achimota, Ashaiman, Tema and Kasoa all suburb of Accra are experiencing shortage of water in the past one week.
This situation is rendering the country’s fight against corona virus pandemic not only ridiculous but also fruitless. Since the basic necessity of water has become dearth he noted.
He stated it is unfortunate, that the current water shortage has come at a time that the president has announced to give free water for three months.
However, Hon. Bedzrah further indicated that, since the free water announced by the president was not limited to fixed pipes but also mobile water tank delivery to home where there are no water supplies through public main pipes, he expect the government to find a way to supply these enclaves in Accra with adequate water.
He is therefore appealing to the government to make provision for all these areas up listed and also authorities to put proper measures in place for free flow of water in taps.
