The United States Consul General in Ghana, Mr Elliot Fertik, has cautioned that comments made on social media in support of individuals or groups considered “unfriendly to the United States” could negatively impact one’s visa application.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Fertik explained that under enhanced screening procedures, consular officers now review applicants’ social media activity to assess their alignment with U.S. values and security interests.
One of the show hosts, Wiston Amoah asked, “If i admit any comment, if i supported those who are deemed unfriendly to the United States, does that in any way affect me?” he asked, “It could” Mr Elliot answered.

He emphasised that this policy is part of broader efforts to ensure that visas are issued only to individuals who pose no threat to U.S. national security.
