The Western Region is gearing up for an intense battle of intellect as 34 schools compete for eight coveted slots at the Preliminary Stage of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
With a rich history in the competition, including former champions and rising underdogs, the region promises exciting clashes and high stakes.
One school to watch out for is the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), a former NSMQ champion in 2012. Despite their previous success, they were unexpectedly defeated by underdogs SHAMA SHS in the 2022 Regional qualifiers, denying them a spot at the Nationals.
Determined to redeem themselves, GSTS is eagerly looking forward to this year’s competition. They will be among the contestants in the first contest on the opening day, hoping to secure their return to the regional stage.
On the other hand, the underdogs of the previous year, SHAMA SHS, who made waves but failed to make progress at the nationals, will be contesting at the regional stage this year.
They are determined to make a strong showing and secure a spot at the Nationals. The anticipation is high as they gear up for their contest, scheduled as the second contest on the first day.
One contest that promises intense competition is the match-up between Ahantaman Girls’ and Arch Bishop Porter Girls’.
These two schools clashed in the 2022 Regional Qualifiers, with Porter Girls emerging victorious. The question on everyone’s mind is whether Porter Girls will repeat their triumph or if Ahantaman Girls will seize the opportunity for revenge.
This contest is sure to captivate spectators and test the knowledge and skills of both teams.
