The National Democratic Congress’ Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has indicated that his victory to lead the NDC is not a victory for him but for the people of Ghana.

He said it is the creation of a society that allows the citizens to live a decent and dignified life, and also about expanding the health care sector so that women would not lose their lives carrying out their biological duties.

The former president said this during his formal acceptance speech to party faithful in the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale.

Mr Mahama added that the victory is to save children who have had to go through life threatening journeys to seek education and manage the country’s economy in a manner that does not require government to appropriate the life time investment of Ghana’s pensioners and the middle class.

“The victory is about raising security and investment for the future generations and not just for spending in a day but about restoring trust, once again in institutions and a genuine love and pride in the name Ghana,” President Mahama added.

He said these can be done if only all party faithful rally behind the NDC for the 2024 elections.

“That will require all of us come together, plus hard work in winning the trust of the people. The NDC and Ghana’s interest must therefore continue to guide and bind us together as one people from one great family” he said.

The former president officially declared the end of the internal contest.

”From today at the University for Development Studies I declare the internal competition for the flagbearership over. You have chosen experience with vision over experiment and I’m confident that in December 2024 Ghanaians will make that choice then put us back on the path of building the Ghana that we all want,” he said.

He said they must flip the coin from competition to cooperation adding that the NDC needs cooperation to build a better Ghana and a better NDC.

“I am therefore calling for cooperation among all elected parliamentary candidates and your aspirants and supporters, incumbent members of parliament who lost their primaries must also keep their heads up.

“You remain heroes for the good jobs you have done and continue to do. We need your experience and talent for the onerous job that faces us when the people of Ghana give us the mandate to stir the affairs of this country once more,” he urged.

He assured the losers of the parliamentary elections that the party will continue to use the talent and experience they have gathered.

Mr Mahama urged all to rededicate themselves and their resources to work hard to win the 2024 elections assuring of his open mindedness, open door policy and commitment to run a government that will be based on merit and competence.
