The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed indefinitely the parliamentary primaries in the Odododiodio constituency.

This is due to a court injunction obtained by a disqualified candidate, Michael Nii Yarboi Annan.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, all activities related to the primaries in the constituency have been temporarily halted.

In the statement, NDC clarified that the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party, in a meeting on January 16, 2024, decided to postpone the election indefinitely.

The disqualified candidate took legal action against the decision to prevent him from contesting in the primary, and the court granted an interlocutory injunction, restraining the NDC from conducting the election until the matter is resolved.

“We wish to inform you that the party was served with a notice of interlocutory injunction by a parliamentary candidate aspirant of the Odododiodoo constituency who was disqualified from contesting the primaries,” an excerpt of the statement read.

The party has also appealed to all branch and constituency executives to uphold peace and harmony during this period of postponement.

The NDC expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the delay and assured its members that a new date for the conduct of the primaries would be communicated once it is determined.

“In the interim, you are to ensure that all beach and constituency executives live in peace and harmony pending the determination of the matter and the fixing of a new date for the conduct of the elections.”

The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC decided to disqualify Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from participating in the parliamentary election for the Odododiodioo Constituency in November 2023.

In a report released last year, the NDC clarified that a special committee, appointed by the Functional Executive Committee, found justifications for Mr. Annan’s disqualification based on evidence presented.

The decision follows Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution, which requires a member to be actively involved at the constituency level for the four years preceding the nomination filing date.
