Practical activities at the KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry are receiving a boost after the 2003 alumni of the school refurbished the physiology laboratory and donated some cabinets to the Simulation Centre.

The gesture is part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the 2003-year group.

A total of GHȼ250,000 was spent on the refurbishment of the physiology lab and the cabinets at the Simulation Centre.

The aim of this donation is to enhance teaching and learning in the medical school.

Dr. Mrs. Sarah Kwarteng Owusu, a representative of the group, spoke about the donation.

“So, it’s been 20 years since we completed medical school. We were a very wonderful class of 103 and this October marks our 20th year.

“So, we came together as a class to give and we decided to give back to our school.

“This is our way of giving back to school for the benefits that it gave us for us to become medical doctors.”

The Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Prof. Daniel Ansong expressed gratitude to the group.

“So, we’ve been privileged to have a 2003-year group donate this mannequin safe for us. We think that they should be kept well so that our students can use them.

“The use of the simulation centre has become very high because of the simulation-based assessment for our students and it’s improving the skills of our students before they touch patients for the first time,” he said

He also called on other alumni groups to emulate the 2003-year group.

“So, I’ll encourage other alumni groups especially 2004 and 2005 to prepare and come up with something for the growth of the medical school,” he said.

A handing over ceremony was conducted to entrust the refurbished lab and cabinet in the hands of the authorities.
