Former President John Dramani Mahama has told the separatist group in the Western Togoland that they cannot claim a part of Ghana and therefore cannot lay claim as such.
According to him, Ghana is a Sovereign Republic, and therefore, no one individual can claim a part of Ghana.
The NDC flagbearer was addressing the Chiefs and people of Jinijini in the Bono Region as part of his activities on his three-day campaign tour of the region.
He said Ghanaians will not sit aloof to allow some individuals to take the laws into their own hands and take part of the country just to satisfy their parochial interest.

To him, Ghana belongs to the people regardless of your ethnic background and that strong bond should continue to keep us together.
“Just a few days ago some unknown persons came to block roads claiming that Volta region is theirs so they want their independence. Ghana’s land belongs to Ghana,Ghana is a sovereign republic and nobody can claim a part of Ghana. When Rawlings built Ghana, we were all part. All of us come together to make Ghana so we cannot sit aloof and watch some people take Ghana. If it’s so, then everyone will trace their history and come for a part of their share which will not be a good thing. What brings us together is the fact that we are all Ghanaians.”
The former President who was speaking on the issue with regards to the activities by the secessionists for the very first time since their attacks on Friday indicated that the NDC is a party that does not discriminate when it’s in power.
He said the NDC rather brings people together as one and does see some ethnic group as superior to the other.
