IPR Ghana celebrates excellence, growth and professionalism at 2025 annual summit

The Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana has successfully held its 7th Annual Summit, which featured a conference, the 31st Annual General Meeting (AGM), and an Excellence Awards ceremony to honour outstanding contributions to the public relations profession.

The two-day event took place from 14th–15th November 2025 at the Western Serene Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi.

The summit opened on Thursday, 14th November with a thought-provoking keynote address delivered by Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhen of the Essikado Traditional Area and President of the Western Region House of Chiefs.

Speaking on the theme, “Reflections on communication to build communities and the nation,” he urged communication professionals to ensure that their work reflects African identity, values and lived experiences.

He remarked, “Any knowledge that enhances your comfort but weakens your consciousness is not worth taking in. Communicators and PR professionals are on the front line. If you lose your consciousness, the nation loses its voice.”

The AGM was held the following morning, bringing members together to assess the progress of the Institute over the past working year and chart a strategic way forward. President of IPR Ghana, Esther A. N. Cobbah, FIPR, emphasised the need for practitioners to evolve in line with emerging global realities.“

While the core principles of Public Relations endure, our world is shifting. We must rethink our approaches, honour our ethical responsibility, and evolve our capabilities to meet the needs of our time,” she noted.

As part of the proceedings, 155 newly qualified members were inducted into Associate, Intermediate, and Accredited membership categories. The evening of Friday, 15th November, was dedicated to honouring distinction in the profession during the Excellence Awards ceremony. Ahead of the awards, a Legends Night was held to celebrate Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, FIPR, for his immense contribution to the communications industry and national development.

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Spio-Garbrah encouraged practitioners to embrace authenticity and courage.

“Many hesitate to show who they truly are, yet real growth begins when we embrace our identity and speak boldly about our ideas. Authenticity, courage and consistency are what build credibility and influence,” he said.

Chair of the Professional Awards Committee, Ms. Adiki O. Ayitevie, commended the quality of entries received this year, describing them as a reflection of the growing innovation and sophistication within the industry.
